TRANSITIONS

STEP 1: Our Pathways Programme

The first step of our Transitions Project is the Pathways Programme, which focuses on Capacity Building. During the final year of secondary school, the Pathways Programme provides academic and psychosocial support, enabling vocational orientation and encouraging active participation of the students’ parents in the journey to higher education.

Why it is important

Due to the academic deficiencies in state education, in many cases the young people who study in rural communities are at a disadvantage in comparison to those who have studied in the city of Cusco. We work alongside them to develop the skills they need in order for them to continue their further and higher education in the city.

*(The Pathways Programme had to be paused due to COVID-19 but will return in 2022.)

Summary and objectives

- Support young people to develop core life-skills.
- Support young people to acquire key knowledge and skills for further education, employability and enterprise.

- Status: Current
- Date: June 2017 - present
- Participants: 58 young people (2019)
- Location: Ccorca, Peru

I feel extremely fortunate to be able to work in a highly-contextualized project that is aligned with both the 2030 agenda and Peru’s government agenda. It is my true pleasure to be able to work with these talented young people that come from challenging backgrounds and develop strategies alongside a very professional team that is able to support them in their academic journeys and future employment.
— Thilo Böck, Transitions Director

STEP 2: Our Scholarships Programme

The second step of the Transitions Project is the Scholarships Programme and it focuses on Reaching Opportunities. Through this programme, we provide full scholarships at high quality institutes, universities and technical colleges. The young people are always accompanied by our professional team of psychologists and educators and the loving and caring support of their families.

Due to COVID-19, the support that was previously given at the Youth Hub is now being provided remotely.

Why it is important

In most cases, these young people are the first in their families to complete primary education and the first to continue their journey onto further and higher education. By providing them with full scholarships, they are able to specialize in a field they enjoy and eventually have access to formal employment. This does not only provide them with economic independence but it also benefits their families.
