Young People Head to Lima
At 8 am on Monday the 21st of November, the nine young filmmakers behind Meet My World were dropped off at Cusco´s airport by friends and family. Alongside team members, the children were about to board a plane to Lima for the very first time. Thanks to LATAM airlines, the group were travelling to attend the launch of Meet My World Lima being held over two nights at Lima´s MALI museum.
For the next five days, it would be a packed itinerary of ´firsts´ including, first time flying, first time visiting Lima, first time swimming in the ocean and first time watching their films on the big screen.Straight after landing in Lima airport, the group set off to visit the city´s biggest zoo and after spending the day seeing some of the world wildest animals, it was straight to the hotel to rest up for the week ahead.
Over the following couple of days, the children visited congress, spent the evening running around Lima´s most famous water park whilst enjoying the lights show, visited the old city centre and spent an afternoon at the beach. Luckily, the sun was shining and swimming was definitely on the cards. They built sand castles, took boat rides around the Chorrillos harbour and even buried themselves in the sand! After a day full of fun, it was time to go back to the hotel and get ready for the first night of the Meet My World event.
On Wednesday the 23rd at 8 pm, 240 people were sat in the MALI auditorium. On the front row, the nine young filmmakers eagerly waiting to watch their films on the big screen. After the screening of the films, speeches by Leoncio, Boarding House director Tania and Amantani graduate Marleni Quispe, the audience were delighted to show the group their appreciation and admiration.
The following morning, the group were in for a treat. Being big football fans, they were able to visit the Matute Footbal Stadium, one of Lima´s iconic stadiums and home to football team, Alianza Lima. Alongside kicking the football around the field, they got a surprise visit from some of the players! Later that night and after a win by Alianza Lima, the children were back at MALI and ready for night two of the event.
After another fantastic evening with a packed out audience, the night ended on a special note when Soledad decided to sing one of her own songs in quechua. It was an emotional moment and a perfect way to end one of the most special Meet My World moments so far.
On Friday, before heading to the airport, the children spent the morning getting a private tour of Mario Testino´s Museum, MATE. They then went on to share a very special lunch with team members from COSAS magazine in their Miraflores headquarters and soon after were on their way home.
The group returned to Cusco later that evening after a week full of excitement, adventure and new experiences. Their friends back at the Boarding Houses welcomed them back and were eager to hear their stories.
A very special thank you to everyone involved in making this trip possible and helping create a lifetime of memories for each of the young people.
