Volunteer in Peru
We are always looking for people to volunteer in the boarding houses in Peru. Our emphasis in on exchange and the focus will be on what you can learn from the people of Ccorca as much as what you can teach. With this attitude, you really can make a difference – that’s why we don’t ask you to pay anything. Our method is to work with few volunteers but in a more involved way. In order to make sure that your time and energy is well spent; we ask two key criteria of our volunteers before we can accept a formal application:
How is your Spanish?
Naturally, Spanish is essential in order to work in the boarding houses. This facilitates communication with the children, their parents as well as our team out in Peru. For this reason, we ask that volunteers can speak Spanish to an advanced level.
How long would you like to volunteer for?
We ask volunteers to commit to at least 2 months with us. This gives the children in our boarding houses continuity and means that you have time to really get to know our work, our team and the children and you can really make a difference…

Where will I be working?
The boarding houses are situated 1 hour from Cusco which is a large city of 300,000 inhabitants. Cusco is inundated with tourists and western culture. On the other side of the mountain is Ccorca - a Quechua community where 95% of the population are self-sufficient farmers. If you were to work in the boarding houses you would spend your weeks in Ccorca and perhaps go back to Cusco at the weekend if you want to check your e-mails!
Where will I stay?
We will provide accommodation for you in Ccorca. You will have a room within the boarding houses where you will be able to stay during the week. Over the weekend, you can stay in Ccorca or if you would like to return to Cusco for the weekends we can help you arrange host-family accommodation, which will come at a cost.
What will I be doing?
This depends on the expertise and experience that you have to offer! We work with each volunteer to find out how their skills can be best used in the boarding houses. The children come to the boarding houses in the afternoon after the state provided school in the morning. Your mornings would be free and your afternoons could be spent helping the children grasp the basics of literacy and numeracy, teaching new handicraft techniques or running dance and theatre workshops. The possibilities are endless.
