Rise To It - 23rd July 2011
They did it! The children overcame the 1,600m standing between them and the top of Mount Mama Simona! On 22nd June, the children and their parents set off to climb the highest mountain in their district in order to raise funds for their boarding house project. With the support of people here in the UK, they raised a total of £700! Although, this was more than just a fundraising strategy. This was an educational exercise in teamwork, determination and self-sufficiency. More important than any money raised was the sense of achievement and boast in self-esteem that the children experienced when they reached the top of their world... As you will see from the photo they had a beautiful day for it. All the children and their parents made it successfully to the top.... When they got there, they made an offering to La Pachamama (mother-earth) in order to express their gratitude for the opportunities she has offered them... Thank you so much to everyone who supported the children and their parents.
