Terrington Hall Rowathon - 3rd March 2010

On 3rd March, pupils, staff and parents at Terrington Hall Prep School in Yorkshire, got together to row the length of Lake Titicaca, a staggering four times! Don’t get too excited mind, they didn’t jet off to Peru! They did all this from the comfort of their own sports hall using 15 rowing machines (very kindly lent by Concept II). In doing so, they raised over £2,000 for Amantani UK, and the money is still coming in! The event was a great success with over 200 children and adults participating to row a very impressive 730km.
Thank you to everyone who came along to support or take part in the rowathon. A special thank you to Andrew Green, without whom the event would not have been possible. He and Jozef also rowed a half-marathon each to get the ball rolling! In fact, by the end of the ‘warm-up’ evening we had already done over 1 length of the lake! Thank you also to all the visiting rugby teams who used the event as a warm up before entering Terrington Hall’s U13 rugby sevens tournament. Between them they rowed over 85k. And last but not least, a huge thank you to Jess Shelley, Chris Palfreyman and Vicky Branson for all their help leading up to the event and on the day itself.
However a very special mention should go to the pupils who between them contributed to well over half the total distance and who showed an unbelievable amount of stamina and determination. The greatest part of the day was seeing the enormous enjoyment and sense of achievement of every single one of them who took part. A small group of committed children, who obviously have a long career in challenges ahead of them, not only rowed their set distances in class, but came back again and again for more.
THANK YOU TERRINGTON HALL!
