On the 15th March 2012, Amantani hosted their first Meet My World Photography Exhibition which featured a series of beautiful photos taken by the children in Amantani's boarding houses. Norton Rose LLP's ninth floor terrace suite offered a stunning venue for an exciting evening celebrating photography, education and the extraordinary potential of young people. This was a historic occasion for Amantani but more importantly for the children in Peru, who unfortunately couldn't be there to see the 300 people that had come along to see their photos.

Back in November last year, the children were given disposable cameras and their brief was to share things from their communities, which make them proud to be Quechua. They snapped away for two weeks and came back with the most beautiful photos, offering their perspective on daily life in the Andes. This process plays an important part in our work to help these children realise the beautiful aspects of their communities, their families and ultimately themselves. Throughout the exhibition guests were able to write to the children about what they had learnt from their photographs. These moving comments are being translated and will be read to the children during our next trip to Peru. This completes the process of reciprocation which helps the children learn their most valuable lesson of all; that they too have something to teach.

Thank you so much to everyone that came down to Norton Rose LLP to see the photos and help make the event a success. Just by being there you have helped us raise the self-esteem of the children we work with. Thanks again to everyone that took the time to engage with the reality of these children and who were moved to support them. We really appreciate your generosity.

Here is what Pilar our Director in Peru said, 'I am impressed and more than anything grateful to Amantani UK for the very professional work which they have carried out. Again and again, I am left admiring English people’s huge spirit of solidarity. Even though we are in times of crisis, it is obvious that it is something that is very deeply instilled in them. How lovely - I congratulate them!”

We were delighted with the launch of this exhibition. But remember this is just the launch! Our aim is to get all 60 photo packages created by the children in Amantani's boarding houses purchased. So please do have a look as we are sure you will love them!
