The Girls from 'Las Tikas Boarding House'

"In this present year we worked with 22 girls and adolescents ranging from 12 years to 18 year old. This year has seen improvements in their positive attitudes, especially in terms of accepting others and themselves. They have also overcome shyness and now express themselves with more fluidity. Before the girls just said yes or no or just covered their mouths. In the classes and homework sessions they are always keen to expand their knowledge and there is an obvious interest in learning everything and anything.

In terms of values, I have noticed that the girls now practice between them values like mutual respect and honesty. One must also recall and underline the value of service to others that they have cultivated. By their own initiative they suggested that they could help the younger girls (‘Stars’) during the morning, accompanying them in getting ready to go to school and doing their hair. Now two older girls go each morning. They also prepare the afternoon refreshments for their younger companions in much the same way."
